Collection: Thomas King   1892 - 1983 

Thomas King (Ring), was born in Nuremberg in 1892. He studied at the Royal School of Art, Berlin from 1911-13, exploring expressionism and abstract painting, he was particularly fascinated by the writings of Kandinsky. After serving in the First World War he began to explore astrology, to which he devoted much of his life, many of his astrological writings were published.

Labelled a ‘degenerate artist’ under the Nazi regime and as a member of the German Communist Party he was forced to emigrate to Austria in 1932. The majority of his early work was destroyed but what remains is held by the German Literature Archive.
